Guide for Very Hard

  • Play as a Warrior Lord. Free 15% healing allows not coming back to town every battle. Additionally, saves you cash which is low.
  • Use Warrior as your main hero. They usually fly and hp increases their survivability, which is crucial.
    • Other heroes quickly dies from spells and thief duels.
  • Use hero that you buy as main. You can give him a custom name for easier recognition. 
  • Kill enemy mage and vampire heroes using thief. Stack without hero moves very slow.
  • For your main hero, select skills: Banner Bearer, Leadership, Pathfinding and Natural Armor.
  • For buffs, focus on defense. Unlike other buffs, defense stacks hyperbolically.
  • Rely on melee units. They do more damage and will break defenders before their mage kill them.
  • Attack center unit for quickly decreasing enemy numbers.
  • Put your strongest unit in the center, so the enemy would split damage.
  • Check enemy placement before battle and adjust yours.
  • Upgrade city when you end turn there for healing. 
  • Hide resurrected and wounded units in the city, so enemy units would not kill them
  • You can restart a chapter from autosave named "saga" which is done at turn 1.
    • Note, you will not receive income from turn one. I recommend saving the game yourself. 

Walkthrough for each map

  1. Check map at:
  2. Get at last two fighters for army. Fighters are best.
  3. Rush towards the enemy capital, to capture a town that would block their advance.
  4. Get Rod hero and capture some gold mines - gold is crucial.
  5. Sell item from previous map.
  6. Get unit upgrade buildings
  7. Capture towns until you meet enemy.
  8. Sell all unused artifacts, scrolls. Use spells from your mage guild.
  9. Fortify at blocking town. Get another hero to intercept enemies.
  10. Push against enemies until you close them in capital.
    • You need a town or two, near their capital to block them.
  11. Clear the map.
    • Collect permanent buff potion.
    • Collect Banner items - preferably defense banners.
    • Collect most valuable item to be sold on next map.
    • Train your hero on enemies from capital or at training camps.
  12. Finish the map.

Human Empire

The easiest due to healing ability. Use Pegasus Knight as main and secondary hero because of flying.
Main army: Pegasus Knight (hero), 2 Angels, Patriarch, +Mage, +Mage
City Defence: 2 Titans, 1 Fighter
Support Army: Pegasus Knight (hero), 1 Titan, 1 Fighter.

Paladin effective health is 175 / (1-0.3) = 250. It is more than Angels 225.
With +30% defense boost (city or banners), it is: 
175 / (1-0.3-0.3) = 437 vs Angels 250 *(1-0.3) = 321.
Still, Angel is better for its increased damage.
You want to kill enemies before they destroy your support units.

Chapter 1 - Cahuzak's Betrayal

Rush west towards Purken Port. You need to level up fighters before capturing the city. Kill peasants stack, 2 goblins, 2 orcs and Abandoned Farm. Note that you can heal on goblin stacks.
  • Highfather's Potions +15% HP (stacks with level up bonuses, the order doesn't matter, use as soon as possible)
  • Banner of Protection +10 Armour 
  • Banner of Speed +10% Initiative.
  • Ruby 250gp - sell it on next map.

Chapter 2 - An Ancient Menace

  1. Recruit two fighters, get apprentice and acolyte. Equip your banners and take all potions. 
    • Rush south towards Mezo shop.
    • Go around goblin near gold mine. 
    • Attack second goblin from behind. So you are positioned to the south.
  2. Go around Orc and enter Mezo shop. Sell ruby for 250 gold. 
    • Attack orc (+20XP each member) with your last move 
      • Recruit Archangel with fighter. Do not take gold mine near capital. It is automatically acquired and gives gold at start of turn 6.
      • Archangel's target is a gold mine far west (round 5). Take north path and skip enemies to get there fast. 
        • At round 6 she uncovers Warewolf stack and capture life mana crystals.
          • The Warewolf stack is very strong, cast Lightning Bolt each turn until you kill Warewolves. Keep Vampire for xp.
        • And another one west from capital at round 10 - after buying unit upgrade buildings.
    • Let Main hero omit Thugs and capture Medgir city this turn. His later job is to:
      • Beat enemy South East and capture Mudurai city from them (round 7)
      • Clear access to infernal mana rune.
      • Level up.
      • Clear Orc Lair for 1000 gold.
    Buy another hero, WITH TITAN, to Capture Burken Fort city, east of your capital. Heal him at Capital.
    Rush fast towards Warewolf stack (turn 14). 
    Pass behind, skip Liche and quickly capture Logun City (turn 16). 
    Immediately recruit new Archangel to but spells at Ketra's Tower and flag Rune Mana and the Gold Mine west from the city. 
    Siva city is defended by Lich so you need either 3 level units or strong combat spells.
    Be warned, Undead Enemy Heroes will be there about round 18. You can level up on them.
    Siva City is enough to block Undeads. Ensure there are no heroes out before taking further actions.

    Checklist before finishing the map:
    • Liquid Uru Metal Potion +10 Armour (map edge west of Ketra spells tower.)
    • Quicksilver Potion +10% Initiative (east corner)
    • Banner of Resistance +20 Armour (Haunted Lair, east of Siva City)
    • Banner of Protection +10 Armour (from previous map)
    • Helm of Purity 600gp (map edge north from Logun City)

    Chapter 3 - The Abduction

    1. Equip your banners and take all potions. Buy 2 Apprentices and Fighter.
      • Swap Knight for Fighter with the free Ranger hero and move north.
      • Skip all enemies and reach Stafny Alchemist shop. Sell everything but your banners.
        • Helm of Purity, Healing and resurrection potions.
      • Attack Giant as to end Main Hero move.
      • Buy Archangel and Fighter
      • Give Fighter to Ranger and get back to city (save move)
      • Grab potion in west corner, come back behind a Life Mana Stone and mark it with the last move possible.
      • Ranger Hero role is to kill Enemy Demon Wandering south of your capital. He needs a level 2 Knight for this.
      • Let him clear dwarves around, using capital for healing
        • Archer dies in first battle - replace him with Fighter when in round 3.
    2. Upgrade Library - you should have equally 200 gold for that.
      • Main Hero: attack Gardel Fort City once, take treasure sack near and attack Gardel Fort City again, ending your move.
      • Archangel: do not capture Gold Mine near capital. It acquired and gives gold at round 3.
        • Move to the map center by river next to the gold mine. Another gold mine near griffon can be captured without a fight.
        • Beware of enemy hero wandering around.
      • Ranger: hide in capital for healing and wait for recruiting Fighter.
    3. Main Hero: Pass the Giant, there is a Demon Rod Bearer Hero to be killed.
      • The Xygag shop to the east is not protected by Giant, sell rods and scrolls to them for unit upgrades.
      • Push south towards Highpeek City.
      • Enemies show there about round 6. 
        • Either be ready to kill them before capturing Highpeek.
        • Or wait till they go south and bypass them.
    Highpeek City is enough to block the Demons. 
    You can immediately push them more, or wait to buy Angels (1800gp) at mercenary camp.
    This way or another, before finishing the map, be sure to get:
    • Potion of Fortune +10% hit chance (river bend SE from capital)
    • Vithar's Ithor Potion +10% damage (East map edge, far end of stream near objective)
    • Banner of Resistance +20 Armour (from previous map)
    • Banner of Protection +10 Armour (from previous map)
    • Banner Of War +20% to hit chance (sell 600 gold)
    • Train Main Hero to level 7. 

    Chapter 4 - Beyond Redemption

    It may happen that you get turn before Demons. Try loading last turn from previous map if you want this boost. If you do run your west Archangel into Mountain Clans territory. She cannot steal mines from ally, but she will be useful later.

    Max Hero level is 8.
    1. Buy standard army, take all items and kill Demon Rod bearer near your capitol.
    2. Free the Archangel trapped behind an Orc and take all items from her.
    3. Break Demon rod on mine near capitol if they managed to place it. Do not place your own. Capitol will claim the mine next turn.
    4. Rush south towards Gallan the Alchemist shop to sell your items and get cash for upgrades.
      • Capture Uhayan City after your Fighters have leveled up.
      • Capture a gold mine west of the city on the other side of the river.
      • Buy another Pegasus Hero to clear enemies around capitol. Level him with Banner Bearer.
        • There is enough banners for 3 additional heroes. Not including your main. 
    • Go further south to Trehor's Shop for Banner of Resistance.
      • Two banners gives 40% armor, which mean +66% hp. Main hero gets 60% armor, which is +150% hp.
    • Keep all staffs and scrolls. When you meet enemies, buy Mage Hero and give it to him. Use when they pass your defence line. 
    • Sell your spells to Clan ally and buy spells from them.
      • Sell for maximum amount.
      • Decline without comment mean he already has this spell.
      • If he does not have it he will buy for maximum price or reply that he is out of cash.
    • Switch an Imperial Knight from your main army for Fighter to train another knight. 
    • Demon Hero blocking strait below Knucket City is stationary. Still it is strong enough to kill some of your units. Clean weaker stacks and dwarf ally would attack it at turn 30.  
      • Defend at Knucket City untill you beat main Demon forces. About 8 upgraded heroes. (Round 47).
      • Buying Red Dragon moving forward or BEFORE opening the strait would make things easier.
      • Always Keep a strong hero in Knucket City. Deamons would try to sneak in.
    • Move forward only when dwarves do so. This would mean AI is out of heroes and mana (round 65). Dwarves would laso soak some spell damage.
    • There is Staff of Invisibility on the other side. Wait till deamon hero would bring it to you.
      • Use the Staf to safely travel to capture next city.
      • Invisible hero will be spotted only if other ally or enemy hero step next to it.
